September 8th

Welcome to H's blog, we hope you enjoy your stay.

This is my very first blog post ever, so please be easy on the criticism. Below is a video from a two night concert I attended this summer in Atlanta. This song is one of my favorites, it is entitled: "Kill Devil Falls", performed by one of my favorite bands, Phish.

1. Engagement, to me, is the act of sending and receiving information via social media.
Interaction is a moment in time where two different social media platforms are communicating with one another.
Reach refers to the number of members in your audience who receive your message.
Target, who are you trying to reach and how big is that number? When properly trying to convey       a message to a specific audience, one must narrow down what that audience needs to look like.

2. "Like"ing, to me, means when someone thinks your status/picture/shared article, is interesting.

3. Yes, I would say that being aware of common interests between two parties is influential to decision making.

4. The concept of the "influencer" is simple, it deals with influencing the purchasing decisions of a subordinate without having to directly communicate with them.

5. This is referred to as "cause related marketing", which is when a company markets their product alongside a current issue to boost their sales to satisfy the segment of consumers they are trying to target.

6. Companies use social media to advertise in a number of ways, mainly to reach a the max amount of their audience as possible in a new and unique manner. Our generation can be easily pleased and if they can hop on the bandwagon and follow a company via their social media platforms, then the company has done their job.

7. Lately, brands have been practicing max transparency in their communication via social media to let their customers know that there will never be any hidden secrets from them. Also, if a company slips up, they can use social responsibility to take action and a post a quick apology for their followers.

8. Celebrities use social media to advertise in many different ways, depending on the platform. Most will post tweets, statuses or videos to advertise for whatever message they may be trying to convey, and most of them have been successful over the years.

9. Corporate sponsorship is when a company pays to have their logo on display at a certain event, these logos frequently show up on banners or promotional items.

10. Recently, marketers are being transparent by informing consumers of their accolades, mistakes and innovations via social media platforms.

11. The plot is a lot like social media advertising because The Hunger Games are announced and televised publicly; also, the event is followed by all of the districts equally due to their representation through the tributes. It is a unique way to broadcast the message and it is delivered flawlessly until the very end of the games.

  1. My brother attended UNCA and is a Phish fanatic so I grew up being forced to listen to their music. I have become a fan...mostly just by association. He also owns a billion Phish shirts. Great job on the discussion questions for "Generation Like." My answers are very similar to yours. For number 10 I talked about how marketers are trying to be transparent because they want us, the users, to do most of the marketing for them. They want the users to feel as though these huge brands, well known celebrities, etc. are just another "friend" on our accounts. Again, great job.
